Welcome to this web site dedicated to
John Gow, a seaman, who grew up in
Orkney, the islands off the north coast
of Scotland.
He died a young man.
Who was he? What was his folly?
Find out on this site which includes the book,
Gow’s Folly, here for you to download.
There you will read of John Gow’s circumstances through the eyes of ten year old young cabin boy, Peter Hansen. His adventures and the horrors he endured unfold as the boy reminisces to friends. John Gow was his hero.
Peter and all but a few of the characters in the book were real people. The body of the novel comes from research of material from the National Archives. Explore the site, but for full enjoyment I would suggest you read the book first to avoid spoiling the plot.
