Why become a Pirate?

Daily life was pretty harsh for ordinary people and certainly no fun. Some of them leapt at the chance of getting away from the dreary routine of scraping a living. Others were attracted by the idea of an exciting and adventurous piratical life (plus a little extra money on the side).
